FARMINGTON/FARMINGTON HILLS — It feels like summer in the greater Farmington area community with activities to keep you busy, ranging from cool, sweet treats to the sweet sounds of music. Rhythmz in Riley Park to feature Creole Du Nord
Creole Du Nord, a Cajun and zydeco-style band, is set to perform 7:30-9 p.m. June 16 for the Rhythmz in Riley Park concert.
Creole Du Nord will play a mix of southwest Louisiana and old-time Americana, including blues, rhythm and blues, and other styles.
In case of rain, the concert will be held at First United Methodist Church, 33112 Grand River Ave in Farmington. No food or beverages are permitted in the church.

Library to host ice cream social
The Farmington Community Library Main Branch, 32737 W. 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills, will host an ice cream social at 2 p.m. June 16 to celebrate the last day of school and to encourage people to sign up for summer reading. For more information, call (248) 553-0300.
Farmington Garden Club to hold garden contest
The Farmington Garden Club is looking for unique gardens for its 2017 Good Neighbor Garden Contest, which features gardens in the Farmington-Farmington Hills area. Nominations will be accepted until June 30.
According to a press release, judging is based on color, design and creativity. If residents nominate a friend or neighbor, they should make sure to get the nominee’s permission first.
Gardeners entered will be notified before the mid-July judging date. Winners will receive gift certificates to Steinkopf Nursery.

Residents may also send the gardener’s name, address and telephone number, along with the nominator’s name, address and telephone number, to Good Neighbor Garden Contest, Farmington Garden Club, 21492 Birchwood Road, Farmington, MI 48336.
A Cappella Music Day Camp scheduled
The “Got Harmony?” A Cappella Music Day Camp day-long event for male and female singers ages 10-25 will be held 9 a.m.-7 p.m. June 17 at Orchard United Methodist Church, 30450 Farmington Road in Farmington Hills.
Participants will perform in a show that begins at 7 p.m. at the church. The event is open to the public, according to a press release. Tickets for the show cost $10.
Young singers will receive vocal training from a cappella music specialists, and will learn choreography and performance techniques.
The camp costs $40, and scholarships are available. The fee per student is $30 if there is more than one participant in a family or group, according to the release. The fee includes a T-shirt, lunch, a snack, dinner, sheet music and a learning CD.

Fire Department to offer car seat inspections
The Farmington Hills Fire Department will offer car seat safety inspections by appointment only 8 a.m.-noon June 17 at Fire Station 4, located at 28711 Drake Road.
Nationally certified child safety seat technicians will inspect all types of child car seats for proper installation and possible product recall. The inspections are free and take about half an hour to complete.
Residents who cannot attend the car seat safety event may contact Fire Marshal Reggie Madeline at the Farmington Public Safety Department, (248) 474-5500, or Children’s Hospital of Michigan Novi Rehabilitation Center at (248) 305-7530 to schedule an inspection.
